Google’s low-cost Chromebooks outsold Apple’s range of Macs for the first time in the US recently. While IDC doesn’t typically break out Windows vs. Chromebook sales, IDC analyst Linn Huang confirmed the milestone to The Verge . “Chrome OS overtook Mac OS in the US in terms of shipments for the first time in 1Q16,” says Huang. “Chromebooks are still largely a US K-12 story.” IDC estimates Apple’s US Mac shipments to be around 1.76 million in the latest quarter, meaning Dell, HP, and Lenovo sold nearly 2 million Chromebooks in Q1 combined. Chromebooks have been extremely popular in US schools, and it’s clear from IDC’s comments the demand is driving US shipments. Microsoft has announced that it’s selling its feature phone business for $350 million in a group deal to FIH Mobile , a subsidiary of Chinese hardware manufacturer Foxconn, which manufactures iPhones for Apple, and a newly formed company called HMD Global . The deal includes Microsoft’s entry-level mobile device assets and the Nokia brand name, as well as its manufacturing facility in Hanoi, Vietnam. The transaction is expected to be finalized in the second half of this year. When it is complete, HMD will be able to sell Nokia-branded feature phones as well as Android-based smartphones and tablets. The new firm plans to invest more than $500 million over the next three years to market its mobile products worldwide. By now, we’re all decently familiar with Facebook and Messenger’s “Other” inbox – private messages that are filtered out based on spam detection and whether you’re friends with the sender. Facebook’s other social network property, Instagram, also has a direct message inbox. While it may be arguably less-used, you may be surprised to know the “Other” inbox system is present here as well. Here’s how to find it. First, go to your Instagram feed.
